Questions first, then answers

Printable inquiry units for Pre-K to Middle School, organised by theme, plus social-emotional learning sheets.

How inquiry worksheets work

Each inquiry worksheet starts from a real question, asks children to wonder, find out, sort what they learn and act on it. The younger sheets use pictures and drawing; the older ones use sources, data and a short written recommendation. Every sheet has an answer key with sample answers for grown-ups.

Pre-K to 5th Grade sheets are organised the way Primary Years Programme schools plan units: each one names a transdisciplinary theme, a key concept and a learner profile attribute, and states a big idea at the top. Middle School sheets follow the Middle Years Programme habit of assessing against named criteria. Each sheet is also mapped to a US standard and, by topic, to the National Curriculum in England and the Australian Curriculum, so it fits a school's programme of inquiry and its national curriculum at the same time.

They suit inquiry-based classrooms, including schools that follow the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. They are not endorsed by or affiliated with the International Baccalaureate Organization.
